Five Favorite Fall Tips

As we roll into the last quarter of the year it’s a great time to think about how you want to close out 2019. It’s not a journey down guilt lane for what didn’t happen. It’s a time to regroup, rebuild and strengthen yourself before the holiday season is upon us.

If you’re a fan of my blog, you know it’s about making it no nonsense and simple. With that spirit in mind here’s my five favorite fall tips to end the year with a bang.

Tip #1

Plan out the rest of this year’s workouts: get them on every calendar you own and somewhere highly visible, like the refrigerator.

From now till the end of the year knowing where and when you are going to exercise just makes planning everything else easier. It’s on your schedule and you can then work around it. This is about you so don’t let little things creep in there to take you off course.

Tip #2

Make a trip to the goodwill or other favorite charity with your clothing and household donations: in other words, get rid of some junk!

We all have just too darn much stuff, I’m guilty for sure. Fall is about rejuvenation, so ditching some items that have been hanging around unused is a perfect time to purge. It is energizing and helps clear the mind, while cleaning out your living place at the same time.

Tip #3

Make one nutrition change, below are a few suggestions

  1. Ditch all seed oils
  2. Eliminate snacks
  3. Reduce foods that raise insulin, such as sugar and carbohydrates
  4. Experiment with food pauses: aka fasting

Seriously, choose just one. Keep it simple, the whole idea is that it is achievable. My own personal one for this fall is no snacks. It is either a meal or it’s not. Find one that works for you in the list and or make up something new.

Tip #4

Find a new reason to exercise that has NOTHING to do with losing weight

Plain and simple you can’t outrun a poor diet. Eat for performance, exercise for exercise (meaning find your passion) and enjoy your food (please make it REAL food!). Ending the year with a key commitment to why you exercise makes the journey way more fun.

Tip #5

Get outside as much as you can before the winter season arrives!

I like this bit of advice from Chris Kesser, MS, L.A.c  in an interview on Revolution Health Radio.

“Generally, sunlight is considered to be a safer way of meeting your vitamin D needs if you can.  I mean, obviously that’s not possible for everybody, depending on where you live and your lifestyle, etc., and your skin tone, because full exposure to sunlight, midday sun exposure 15 to 20 minutes in a light-skinned person produces about 10,000 IU of vitamin D, but in a darker-skinned person, it could take up to 2 hours to produce that same amount of vitamin D.  But one reason why sunlight might be better than supplements is that the body does have some ability to put the breaks on the conversion of ultraviolet light into vitamin D when it’s had enough.”

Chris definitely has a lot of excellent information on his website. One additional highlight for me is his piece on “How Industrial Seed Oils Are Making Us Sick.”

Final note

Find your own fall favorite tip and celebrate it in colorful style. Keep it simple and as always make it work for you.

Spring passes and one remembers one’s innocence.
Summer passes and one remembers one’s exuberance.
Autumn passes and one remembers one’s reverence.
Winter passes and one remembers one’s perseverance.
